Hello again, it’s Adam!
Today, our adventurous team of myself, Chris, Dan, and Jeff geared up for the much-anticipated second leg of our journey: driving from Glasgow’s DoubleTree by Hilton to the town of Falkirk. What made this part of our trip extra special was a detour to see The Kelpies, an awe-inspiring monument and one of the esteemed Silver Propellant award locations.
After a restful night at the DoubleTree and a hearty breakfast, Chris (our unyielding driver) once again took the wheel. With anticipation brimming in our hearts, we set our GPS to Falkirk, making sure to include a detour via The Kelpies. The crisp morning air filled the car, and as we navigated through the bustling streets of Glasgow, our excitement was palpable.
On our way, we couldn’t resist stopping at The Kelpies, the largest pair of equine sculptures in the world. It’s no wonder this magnificent landmark is one of the Silver Propellant award locations. Towering 30 meters high, these gleaming, steel-clad horse heads are not just a feast for the eyes, but they also pay homage to Scotland’s horse-powered heritage.
DJ Jeff, still in charge of the road trip soundtrack, added an extra touch of grandeur to the visit. As we marvelled at the gigantic sculptures, the music seemed to provide the perfect backdrop, making the experience even more magical.
Following our stopover, we continued our drive to Falkirk. The sight of the Kelpies gradually fading in our rear-view mirror was bittersweet. However, the anticipation of the upcoming canal boat holiday was enough to keep our spirits high.
As we rolled into Falkirk, a sight that could only be described as a marvel of modern engineering unfolded before our eyes – The Falkirk Wheel. This unique structure, the only rotating boat lift of its kind in the world, marks the entry to our next big adventure: our much-awaited canal boat holiday.
And here we are, finally on our home for the next few days, the charming ‘Green Sandpiper.’ Unloading our car, we transferred our belongings onto the narrowboat. It’s incredible how cozy and inviting the boat feels – much like a home away from home.
After settling in and exploring the nooks and corners of our floating abode, we decided to spend the rest of the afternoon and evening on board, soaking up the unique experience. It was a relaxed affair, complete with board games and laughter echoing within the narrowboat walls.
As we wrap up the night, we are looking forward to tomorrow. The plan is to set off towards Glasgow, navigating the scenic Union Canal. The anticipation of what lies ahead, the towns we’ll pass, the landscapes we’ll encounter, is thrilling to say the least.
