As our incredible journey on the Caledonian Canal approached its end, we spent Day 8 making our way back to our home base in Laggan. This day was filled with reflection and a sense of accomplishment, as we retraced our steps from Fort Augustus to Laggan, savoring the final moments of our canal adventure.

Morning: Departing Fort Augustus

We departed from Fort Augustus in the morning, feeling a mix of emotions—grateful for the experiences we had enjoyed, yet sad to see the journey come to a close. The morning was crisp and clear, with the waters of the canal calm and inviting as we set off on our last full day of cruising.

Navigating the canal had become second nature by now, and we took our time, soaking in the sights and sounds of the Highlands one last time. The peacefulness of the canal, with its gentle waters and surrounding greenery, offered a perfect backdrop for reflection on the past week’s adventures.

Afternoon: A Leisurely Journey Back to Laggan

The journey back to Laggan was unhurried, allowing us to fully appreciate the beauty of the Scottish Highlands. We passed through familiar locks and lochs, each one bringing back memories of the challenges and triumphs we had experienced along the way.

As we cruised, we couldn’t help but reminisce about the places we had visited—Urquhart Castle, the bustling town of Inverness, the peaceful stretches of Loch Ness—and the people we had met. The camaraderie among fellow boaters, the warmth of the locals, and the stunning landscapes had all contributed to making this journey truly unforgettable.
